Rising Clouds Lift Server Fortunes

The voracious appetite for compute and storage capacity among hyperscalers and cloud builders once again drove the server market to new heights as 2015 came to a close, and unless some wobbling from Hewlett Packard Enteprise and Cisco Systems is a leading indicator of a slowdown – and we do not think it is – then this year will probably also be a record setter.

Slowdown? What Server Slowdown?

The IT sector was bracing for a slowdown in system spending a few weeks ago, but it doesn’t look much like a slowdown has materialized, despite warnings from server adapter card maker QLogic that its business had slowed because the ramp for Intel’s “Haswell” Xeon E5 v3 processors and their “Grantley” server platform was not as fast as QLogic hoped.
